Joe Budden – Afraid (Drake Diss) | Stream [New Song]

Oh shit. Just hours after Drake finally responded to him with a verse on French Montana's new single, "No Shopping," which premiered tonight on OVO Sound Radio, Joe Budden has come back with his third diss track: "Afraid." Soon after "No Shopping" dropped, Budden responded with a couple of memes that suggested he had already assumed victory over the OVO boss. However, he's now decided that he's not content with letting Drake have the last word. If Drake's verse on "No Shopping" can be considered a diss track, then he's only put out one to Budden's three. "Afraid" follows "Making a Murderer," released at the end of last month, and "Wake," which dropped a week later. It's assumed that Budden had this one in the stash ready to go, though it's possible that he recorded it in a few hours, which would, of course, be all the more impressive.

"Afraid" samples a Drake track from 2010's Thank Me Later, as lyrics from the hook of "The Resistance" (which include "What am I afraid of?") are repeated in the background throughout "Afraid." On the same hook, Drake sings, "You promised me you would never change," which relates to Budden's most overt message on "Afraid" -- that Drake used to conduct himself with the authenticity of a true emcee; not no more, says Budden.
